The featured image is my personalised rendition of the Mekon in aerial flight, giving chase to Dan Dare and his Comrades in their attempt to escape from the North Venusian capital of Mekonta aboard a Telezero Reflector, one of the Mekon’s specialised Space Battleships.
The illustration was hand-painted in acrylic watercolours and outlined in black ink. The image is copied from a panel of the first Dan Dare Venus story, devised and drawn in full colour by Frank Hampson and published by Marcus Morris in the highly successful Eagle comic of the early 1950s.
The array of eight copies in the slideshow beneath have been rendered and stylized variously with tonal alterations and enhancements in PhotoStudio and the colour adjust facilities of my MacBook.
