This is the Eighth in a series of pencil studies that I made on Saturday mornings between 1993 and 1995 in the Main Hall at East Croydon United Reform Church with sessions run by Joel Arnstein.
This image features a male model called Chris. The drawing was made in October 1993. It amused me to employ the enterprising strategy of sketching somebody else sketching Chris from an angle that not only made the drawing more interesting, but suggested a scenario, one repeated observer short of an ever-decreasing series of mirror images.
Whatever it was that made Chris’s hair stand on end certainly didn’t detract from its luxuriant condition – and by his bored expression and lethargic stance, he doesn’t seem in the least perturbed by anything, either. Not even the fact that the bearded man with spectacles sketching him looks uncannily like Rolf Harris.
The Title is a playful quip, and the identity of the Rolf Harris lookalike is completely unknown to me.
