High Flyer is an acrylic watercolour I painted in 1982. I can’t remember what source I used as a reference or whether it was from a photo or an illustration.
I do seem to recollect a re-issue of the Eagle Comic in a new style and format with new Dan Dare stories drawn by an artist previously unknown and unpublished in that genre, in which the Pilot of the Future was depicted as having started off as a World-War-II British Air Force pilot complete with fur-collared brown leather jacket and I think, illustrated with one or two aerial images similar to this one, but that wasn’t until the early 1990s and this painting was done in 1982, so I’m a bit stumped as to why I created this image or from which source.
I do recall that it was an illustration I wanted to draw and paint at the time. I did two of them; the other one is called Early Jet Plane and is also located in Landscape under Art in the Pulldown Menu.
